We are very sad to inform you that Professor Attila Vértes passed away on 31 December, 2011. He was a renowned radiochemist, a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, a distinguished Professor of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, an author of over 500 original scientific papers, an editor of numerous science monographs, an outstanding science organizer. We're so sorry to hear of his loss.

In memoriam of him, we published this special issue 3501 of MERDJ (Mössbauer Effect Reference and Data Journal) like in memoriam of Professor Rudolf L. Mössbauer (see 3407 issue). So in this Mössbauer Newsletter, please read the article written by Professor Ernö Kuzmann of Eötvös Loránd University as well as the tributes given by other Mössbauer scientists.
